Transparent is a split 7" by
Weekend and
Young Prisms. Weekend released a 10" on
Mexican Summer earlier (also known from releases by Washed Out and Pearl Harbour). I really liked their song
All-American, sounding somewhere near My Bloody Valentine and Japandroids, only with added vacuum cleaner. That's right: even more vacuum cleaner, but still creating great melodies. Their song from the Transparent 7",
End Times, can be considered just as genius. This time they sound a bit more New Wave, thanks to the added edgy bassline. Unbelievably, they manage to create a larger-than-life chorus within their shoegaze-sound, going straight through the heart.
Young Prisms' side of the 7" is just as great as their San Francisco friends. Leaning heavily on layers of vocals and guitars with loads of reverb, their song
I Don't Get Much sounds dreamy from start to finish.
You can download both songs from
Transparent's nice blog. But really, you should
buy a copy for 5 bucks from Pure Groove.
